Case Study: MECO – Greeneville

Reimagining Growth in the Face of Global Competition

The Challenge:
MECO, a respected manufacturer based in Greeneville since 1959, faced mounting pressure from low-cost Chinese knockoffs and the impact of unfavorable tariffs. With their core product line under pressure, MECO’s leadership recognized the need to diversify and innovate to stay competitive and grow.

Our Approach:
In collaboration with the Kentucky Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), we launched a multi-month Growth Management Solutions (GMS) workshop tailored for MECO’s executive team. This hands-on, strategic initiative focused on:

  • Mapping MECO’s current capabilities
  • Identifying high-potential market sectors
  • Facilitating creative brainstorming for new product ideas and enhancements to existing offerings
  • Vetting concepts for feasibility and alignment with MECO’s strengths

The Impact:
The GMS workshop sparked a wave of innovation. MECO emerged with multiple new product concepts and refinements to existing products and processes—laying the groundwork for a more resilient and diversified portfolio.

Client Feedback:
MECO’s leadership described the experience as transformational. The workshop not only delivered tangible ideas but also reinvigorated the team’s creativity and became a cornerstone of their ongoing product development strategy. The company is now better positioned to navigate global challenges and seize new growth opportunities.
