The Tennessee Manufacturing Extension Partnership (TMEP) is proud to highlight a recent graduation ceremony in Obion County for participants in the Manufacturing Skills for Success program. This initiative provides incarcerated individuals with hands-on training and industry-recognized credentials to prepare them for meaningful careers in manufacturing upon release.
The program is delivered in partnership with the Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board, local jails, and regional manufacturing employers who are invested in providing second-chance employment opportunities.
“Our goal is to assist the justice involved population to reenter the workforce into high quality jobs, reducing the risk of recidivism and increasing long-term career success,” said Jennifer Bane, Executive Director of the Northwest Tennessee Workforce Board. “In turn, we are positively impacting the labor participation rate and preparing a skilled workforce for our second chance manufacturing employer partners.”
Upon completion of the training, participants receive credentials such as OSHA-10 and employability certifications. Once released, graduates are connected with American Job Centers for help with resume building, interview preparation, and job placement support.
“Once the training is complete, credentials earned, and individuals are released; job placement is our top priority,” Bane added.
This success in Obion County underscores the value of collaboration between corrections, workforce development, and industry to improve outcomes both for individuals and for Tennessee’s economy.
