AI Readiness Day for Tennessee Manufacturers

Most programs lose manufacturers in the gap between awareness and action. This one closes it in a single day: your team learns the tools in the morning, and we find where they apply on your floor that afternoon.

One full day, at your facility. Training first, then time on the floor, in that order and for a reason.

Four hours of hands-on training, built for non-technical staff. Your people use the tools during the session rather than watching a presentation.

An in-plant walkthrough the same afternoon. Tennessee MEP consultants walk your operation and identify two or three high-value opportunities specific to it.

A one-page Opportunity Snapshot. Within forty-eight hours of the engagement, your consultant sends your top two or three opportunities and a proposed path forward.

A fee-based engagement, scoped to your facility. Your Solutions Consultant will size it with you before anything is committed.

How the Day Runs

The order matters. A team that has just spent four hours using the tools walks past things in the afternoon they would not have noticed in the morning, and the opportunities they raise are better because of it.

Morning: four hours, hands on

Built for people who do not work in IT. The session covers what AI is and is not, prompting skills, Custom GPTs, and manufacturing applications drawn from Tennessee plants.

Everything is structured around doing rather than explaining. Nobody leaves with a theory.

Afternoon: on your floor

Tennessee MEP consultants walk the operation with your team, looking for two or three opportunities worth acting on rather than a full inventory of everything AI could touch.

After: the Opportunity Snapshot

A single page naming the top two or three opportunities identified in your plant, with a proposed path for moving on them.

Your consultant sends it within forty-eight hours of the engagement, and it is short enough that a leadership team will actually read it.

What We Listen For on the Walk

Our consultants listen for frustration as much as for answers. The places people complain about are consistently where the highest-value opportunities are, and certain phrases come up in plant after plant.

Signals we act on

We do that manually. Any repetitive data entry, inspection, or reporting.

It depends on who is working. Inconsistency between people or shifts is a knowledge capture opportunity.

We lose a lot of time when. Scheduling, downtime, and changeover friction.

Our best guy is retiring. Tribal knowledge with a deadline on it.

Signals we set aside for later

We need to replace our whole ERP. A real conversation, but not a first project.

We want predictive maintenance. A good goal that needs a data foundation underneath it first.

We want robots. A separate discussion, and one Tennessee MEP can also have with you.

We need to connect everything. That belongs in a later phase, not in the first ninety days.

Who Belongs in the Room

The morning session is sized for a working group rather than an auditorium. Supervisors, engineers, quality staff, schedulers, and estimators get more out of it than executives do, because they are the ones who will use the tools next week.

For the afternoon, we ask that someone who can make a decision joins the walk. Opportunities identified with the budget holder in the room move. Opportunities identified without one tend to sit.

There is no prerequisite. Nobody needs to have used an AI tool before, and no software has to be purchased in advance.

Where This Goes Next

Some manufacturers take the Snapshot and run with it internally. That is a legitimate outcome and one Tennessee MEP supports. Others want the opportunities scoped properly, sequenced against effort and budget, and measured against a baseline before they commit.

AI Assessment and Roadmap

A multi-day engagement with no training component. Tennessee MEP consultants work through eighteen structured questions across eight areas of your operation, produce a written report rating each opportunity by priority and effort, and build a roadmap in three phases with a baseline and a check-in schedule.

Common Questions

How long is an AI Readiness Day, and how much does it disrupt production?

It is one full day at your facility. The morning is a four-hour hands-on training session for a working group of your staff, and the afternoon is an in-plant walkthrough with Tennessee MEP consultants. Production continues during the walk. The people most affected are the functional leads who attend the morning session, and your consultant sends the written Opportunity Snapshot within forty-eight hours of the engagement.

What is the Opportunity Snapshot, and what do we receive?

The Opportunity Snapshot is a one-page written summary of the top two or three AI opportunities identified in your plant during the walkthrough, with a proposed path for moving forward on them. It is deliberately short. It is meant to be read by a leadership team and acted on, and it becomes the starting point if you go on to an AI Assessment and Roadmap.

Does our team need AI experience or software before the session?

No. The training is built specifically for non-technical manufacturing professionals and assumes no prior exposure. Nothing needs to be purchased or installed in advance. Tennessee MEP leads with free and low-cost tools that cover most of what manufacturers need in their first ninety days, so the day does not depend on a software decision being made first.

Our equipment is decades old and not connected to anything. Is this still worth doing?

Yes, and it is one of the most common questions we hear. Projects that need live sensor data from equipment are real, but they are not the first place to start. The opportunities identified on a Readiness Day work from what a plant already has in writing, such as procedures, work orders, shift logs, and quality records. Connecting a machine is not a prerequisite for the first round of work.

Is AI going to replace workers at our facility?

No, and the fear deserves a direct answer rather than a technology pitch. The highest-value applications we identify in plants make experienced workers more effective: capturing knowledge before someone retires, reducing repetitive paperwork, and freeing skilled people for the judgment calls machines cannot make. Tennessee MEP has a workforce consultant on the team specifically to help manufacturers handle the human side of AI adoption alongside the technical side.

Curious about AI. Not sure where it fits.

That is exactly where we start. Tennessee MEP consultants will train your team and walk your floor in the same day.
